Program Description
Become a Leader
The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Program at ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É is designed to educate and train qualified young men and women for service as commissioned officers in the Navy or Marine Corps.
NROTC prepares mature young men and women morally, mentally, and physically for leadership and management positions in an increasingly technical military. In addition, participation in the naval science program instills in students the highest ideals of duty, honor and loyalty.
Overview
Students in the NROTC program experience the best of both worlds: they are full-time college students while also serving as Midshipmen, preparing for future leadership roles in the Navy or Marine Corps. This dual responsibility allows them to balance academic pursuits with military training, fostering a unique blend of personal and professional growth.
As college students, Midshipmen attend regular classes in their chosen major, ensuring they receive a well-rounded education. Alongside their major coursework, they take Naval Science classes, which cover topics like naval history, navigation, leadership, and ethics, providing the foundational knowledge necessary for their future careers as officers.
Midshipmen are expected to manage their own schedules effectively, a skill critical to their success both in the program and in their future roles as military leaders. This responsibility includes balancing academic commitments, Naval Science courses, and military obligations.
Physical fitness is a key component of the NROTC program. During the semester, Midshipmen participate in Physical Training (PT) sessions two to three times a week to meet and exceed the fitness standards required by the Navy and Marine Corps. For Marine Option Midshipmen, physical training includes additional activities such as hikes and runs, often utilizing the ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É NROTC unit’s Marine Corps Obstacle Course—a challenging and engaging way to build endurance, strength, and teamwork.
Through this comprehensive approach, the NROTC program develops well-rounded individuals who are not only academically accomplished but also physically fit and prepared to lead with confidence in a demanding military environment.
